Outdoor Education Programmes

Kindilan specialises in outdoor education and adventure packages for schools (primary, secondary and tertiary), corporate groups, community groups and private groups.

Programmes emphasise personal growth through experience and challenge. Individuals develop self reliance, responsibility, teamwork, confidence, compassion, and environmental and community stewardship. Above all, participants accomplish all of this while having fun.

Kindilan Adventurous Activities

Adventure Activities at Kindilan include:

Individual High Rope Elements                        Flying Fox

Continuous High Rope Element Course             Abseil (6,12 & 18 m)

Team Belayed High Rope Elements                  Low Ropes

    Teambuilding Initiatives                                Environmental Activities

    Initiatives                                                  Canoeing & Kayaking

    Advanced Initiatives                                    Raft Building

    Mountain Bike Riding                                    Rogaining

    Bushwalking                                               Expeditions

    Orienteering                                               Wilderness Camping

High Ropes are adventure activities that enhance team work and individual challenge. These activities focus on increasing self esteem, building individual and group trust, and addressing group dynamics and respect for others in a safe and supportive environment.

Challenge courses (low ropes) are activities based on teamwork and trust but may also be individual challenges. Low ropes elevate a person  mostly by either cable, rope or a tree off the ground to no higher than 1 metre. 'Spotters' are required for the person off the ground.

The low ropes are always accompanied with an introductory session where the participants have to demonstrate a level of trust and spotting techniques before they proceed onto any low rope element.

Kindilan's  lake is fed by a natural creek line and spring. The water is tested every year and is near drinking quality. The lake is home to a wide range of flora, fauna and birdlife. We regularly sight swamp hens, water dragons, lace monitors, sea eagles and long necked turtles. We have also had sightings of platypus in the upper creek.

The lake is a hub for wildlife and water activities. To instruct water activities our staff must have a current Basic Skill Instructor Award (Australian Canoeing Federation), First Aid & CPR.

Kindilan has an abseil tower that provides  6, 12 and 18 metre platforms on which to abseil from. Internal ladders and steps allow access to the platforms. Our safety procedures insist that all abseilers have a safety rope back up that the OE instructor controls.

Therefore, the instructor to participant ratio never exceeds 1:3. The remaining group members are supervised by a registered teacher (from school group) or another adult at the base of the tower.

Kindilan offers a range of  initiatives and problem solving activities in each programme. These activities help individuals to develop trust, group cohesion and effective behaviours that will contribute to optimal growth and programme goal achievement.

Programme Enhancers

We offer a range of additional activities that complement any programme. These activities can be useful for groups who require less adventurous or physical programmes. Costs are subject to the number of participants and the duration of the activity. Some examples are outlined below:

In addition to walking expeditions, we provide mountain bike expeditions and bike'n'hike adventures in the area.

Country retreat: Kinkuna

Kindilan has a sister site called Kinkuna located amongst the Main Range in South East Queensland (12 kms from Killarney, near Warwick). Kinkuna is located just 2kms from Queen Mary Falls, and extremely close to Browns Falls, Carrs Lookout and Teviot Falls (along Main Range).

The Kinkuna site has camping facilities for 80-100 guests and 20-25 beds in an old restored school house. Expansive wilderness is at it’s doorstep. Call Guides Queensland for a contact number for the Booking Officer on 07 3252 3061.

Testimonials from participants:

TheApril and July programs were extremely successful with the teenagers expressing personal outcomes of self esteem, goal direction, managing stress, feeling empowered and feeling really good about self. For many the Teen Discovery was a once in a lifetime expereince that they would never forget.

"I am really proud of myself for participating in all of the activities. One things for sure, I miss waking up and not seeing your faces and smiles and I also miss not having lunch together that was great. As the three days passed I think we learned to work more like a family and I really miss that. I loved how we all worked together in the activities and all gave it a go. I didn’t want to say anything on the last day when we were doing the click story thing because I knew I would have cried (even though I cried when we said goodbye) but I did enjoy myself a lot and learned so much about myself" (July participant).

"Overall the camp that you have created is very special and you should be proud because you have helped me and everyone else on the camp become more kind and forgiving towards one another and you have taught us that though people are different we are all human and deserve to be treated like everyone else". (October participant)

Testimonial

"I'd like to thank all of the Kindilan team for making our Queensland Team Development Day a huge success. Their organisation and coordination of such a large group was extraordinary and the team-building activities offered were perfect for a group having mixed physical and mental abilities. By the end of the day our staff morale was at an all time high....new heights were reached, billies lifted, cards shuffled, swings swung, bridges built, logs not so gracefully climbed, unflattering photos taken, new friendships were formed and the most cynical of staff became team-building day converts. Congratulations Kindilan, I look forward to our next event together.... Denise Cook, Executive Assistant, MWH - Feburary 2008"
